Abstract
Endoscopic examination was performed on 1038 cases from Jan. 1979 through Aug. 198G in Dept. of Int. Med. National Medical Center, of whom duodenal lesions were found in 158 cases constituting 15.2% of total.
The results were as follows:
1. On duodenoscopic examination, duodenitis was the most frequent finding (46.5%), followed by duodenal ulcer (42.4%), malignant tumors (5.1%) including primary (1.3%) and metastatic (3.8%), benign tumors (3.8%) including polyp (2.5%) and submucosal tumor (1.3%), and diverticulum (2.5%) in descending frequency.
2. The most common age groups were 30¢¥s (35.4%) 40¢¥s (27.8%), and there were tendencies to develope duodenitis and diverticulum more commonly in 30¢¥s and .40¢¥s, malignantt tumor in 40¢¥s and 50¢¥s. Also duodenitis and diverticulum were more common in male with ratio of male to female of 2:1.
3. The first portion of duodenum was the most common site of various lesions (overall 82.9%) except that the malignant tumor developed more frequently in the second portion (75.000) .
4. In 107 cases on whom UGI X-ray examination was performed simultaneously, the overall accuracy rate of X-ray diagnosis was 32.7%, in which the highest diagnostic accuracy was for malignant tumor (50%).
5. Other G-I lesions were found to be associated with duodenal lesions in 147 cases (93.0 %). Of those gastritis was the most frequent finding, followed by gastric ulcer, gastric cencer, pancreatic cancer, and biliary cancer in descending frequency.
